Photosynth

While working on the Seadragon team, I had the opportunity to help bring the first version of Photosynth to life. We married research from the University of Washington and Microsoft Research on positioning photographs in three dimensional space with Seadragon's ability to load high resolution images smoothly. The result was a very compelling, futuristic demo, which you can see here in the second half of this TED Talk:

Over time it developed into a tool that anyone could use, beloved by photo enthusiasts who wanted to take their work into the third dimension.

Photosynth doesn't exist anymore, but Henri Astre has revived it on the Internet Archive! You can't add new content, but you can see the content people created in the past:
